Title : SEPARATING MIXTURES 2 Aim : To separate the components in a dye . Directions : Cut a filter paper into a rectangular strip . Mark a line with pencil 1.5 cm from one edge . On one side of that line place a drop of screened methyl orange indicator . On the other side a drop of methyl orange indicator . Hold the filter paper upright in a small beaker with water ( the depth of water must be 1 cm ) Allow the water to move up the filter paper to an appropriate level . Remove and allow the filter paper to dry . The sample will be attached in the notebook Discussion : what is this process called ? What was the purpose of the water ? Which component moved the furthest and why ? What are the similarities and difference between both dyes ?
